Straw furniture

In Ghana with Abene, Yaa, Marta, and other expetionally skilled weavers we have made large straw weavings. Sometimes the shape was woven at once, sometimes I've changed it. In France, in my workshop, I have made leather modules that I combined with the straw to form furniture.

The grass is just sun-dried, and the leather is oak-tanned by a heritage-listed French tannery. Simple thread join the parts together.

Handcrafted, these pieces explore flexibility and rigidity at the heart of the surface/material relationship, forming sculptural pieces of furniture.

This series is currently on show at the Galery Sinople for the Ligare exhibition, in Paris.
